Brainy Stuff!

TEAM primary students are using their brain power! During a sharing circle, Mrs. Gerlai stimulated conversation on how we use our brains. The students agreed that we use our brain when we learn new skills. They discussed that we use different parts of our brain to read and do math but sometimes the same part of the brain helps with both. They offered ways to protect our brain from injury when performing higher risk activities such as skiing, biking and skateboarding by wearing a helmet.

After sharing information, a detailed miniature-sized model of a brain was passed around for the children to see and touch. The students enjoyed holding the brain in their hands and observing the convoluted folds, hemispheres and lobes. They noted the greyish/reddish colour and the sticky texture. The students can’t wait to “Brain” storm other interesting topics.
